Hips
The hips play an important role in how load and movement are organised between the upper and lower body.
The hips play an important role in how load and movement are organised between the upper and lower body. Because they set the angle for the spine above and the legs below, hip position may sometimes influence patterns felt in the shoulders, knees or neck.

The bigger picture
Why the site of pain may not be the source
Within the Postural Alignment framework Nina uses, the ankles, knees, hips and shoulders are described as eight major load-bearing joints. This is terminology within that framework, not a universal medical classification. The idea: these joints work as one stack, and a change at one may be accompanied by adjustments elsewhere.
Design
Ankles, knees, hips and shoulders aligned; the spine holding its S-curve.
Compensation
Some muscles switch off, others take over, and the stack shifts.
Symptom
Tension and discomfort appear — often far from where the shift began.
